This little Bantam hen was an escape artist! I couldn't keep her in the chicken coop for long. Each summer, she would run away, make a nest, lay eggs and then bring the young chicks home when they were old enough to travel. Unfortunately, there were too many eagles, hawks, owls, foxes and ferrits around and she would usually lose her whole family. One year after losing her chicks, she decided to care for a batch of barn kittens. She would sit on their "nest" and keep them warm! Little did they know that the hen was not their real mother. Amazingly, their real cat mother did not mind this attention at all!
